ADI KAILASH YATRA FROM Kathgodam

Tour Highlights

Adi Kailash, revered as the sacred home of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati, holds great importance in Hindu mythology as one of the Panch Kailash. Along with Om Parvat, it is considered a deeply holy site in Hinduism, believed to bring inner enlightenment and purification simply by being seen. The peaceful and serene environment here is said to be filled with cosmic energy that has transformative powers.

According to legend, the demon king Ravana received blessings from Lord Shiva at Adi Kailash, gaining extraordinary strength and wisdom. Of the eight mountains that bear the sacred OM symbol, only one—Om Parvat, also known as Adi Kailash—has been revealed to humanity. Standing at an impressive height of 6,191 meters in the Dharchula district, Adi Kailash is famous for its spiritual significance and adventurous appeal. Its unique feature is the natural formation of an Om symbol with snow on the black mountain, making it a stunning marvel of nature.

Day-by-Day Travel Plan

At 7:00 AM, we will commence our journey from Kathgodam to Pithoragarh, with en-route visits to significant landmarks:

Kainchi Dham: Established in the 1960s by the revered Saint Sri Neem Karoli Baba ji, Kainchi Dham is a renowned Hanuman temple and ashram, offering spiritual solace to visitors.

Golu Devta Temple: Constructed in the 12th century by a Chand Dynasty general, Golu Devta Temple is dedicated to Golu Devta, revered as the God of Justice, attracting devotees seeking divine blessings.

Jageshwar Dham: Jageshwar comprises over 100 ancient stone temples dedicated to Lord Shiva, earning it the popular moniker “Valley of Gods,” serving as a site of spiritual reverence and historical significance.

Upon arrival in Pithoragarh, you will receive a warm welcome at the hotel, where you will stay overnight. Pithoragarh, also known as the “Shor Valley,” is the third-largest city in the Kumaon region. It serves as a dream destination for those seeking a retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life. Pithoragarh is a gateway to numerous trekking routes and pilgrimage destinations like Adi Kailash and Om Parvat, offering a serene escape amidst nature’s beauty.

Following an early breakfast, we will embark on a drive from Pithoragarh to Dharchula. Upon arrival in Dharchula, we will complete the necessary paperwork for the Inner Line Permit, essential for today’s journey as we come close to the international border with Nepal. Dinner and overnight accommodation will be arranged at a hotel in Dharchula.

Dharchula, etymologically derived from “Dhar” meaning “Ridge” and “Chulha” meaning “A stove,” owes its name to its unique topography. When viewed from a bird’s eye perspective, the town resembles a stove nestled amidst towering ridges on all sides, with the gushing Kali River forming a natural boundary with Nepal. Apart from its proximity to Nepal, Dharchula offers a multitude of experiences, including a visit to the “RUNG” museum and indulging in the delectable local dumplings. For those attuned to the essence of places, Dharchula resonates with the historical legacy of Indo-Tibetan trade routes and the grand migration caravans of yore. The wrinkles on the brows of indigenous Rung individuals and their timeless smiles offer glimpses into the adventurous spirit of the Silk Route, inviting travelers to embark on a journey through time and culture.

After enjoying breakfast, we will embark on a visit to Nabi, a picturesque village reminiscent of the mysterious Pandora from the movie “Avatar.” The journey promises to be a fairy tale adventure, offering breathtaking views of cliff-hanging mountains, rushing rivers, and snow-capped Himalayan peaks, providing a glimpse into the realm of Lord Shiva. Along the way, we will explore charming villages like Malpa, Budhi, Chialekh, Garbyang, Gunji, and Napalchu. Nabi village serves as the base camp for Adi Kailash, offering an authentic experience of Himalayan culture. We will spend the night at a homestay in Nabi Village, where shared washrooms are available, and savor delicious local cuisine.

Malpa: This village witnessed one of the most significant tragedies in the Himalayas in 1999. Don’t hesitate to inquire about the poignant saga of pain from your guide or driver.

Budhi: A place where the altitude opens up to offer an exhilarating sense of adventure and spiritual pilgrimage.

Chialekh: This paradise-like village presents an opportunity for interaction, as the inner line permit is verified here by the Army.

Garbyang: Don’t miss the chance to purchase sea buckthorn vinegar, a local specialty, from this village.

Gunji: Be sure to glance towards Om Parvat and the historic Kailash Mansarovar route, offering a glimpse into the region’s rich heritage.

In the early morning, we will embark on a visit to Om Parvat, a journey that takes approximately 2 hours by vehicle. Here, you will witness a “Miracle of Nature” where snow adorns the mountain in the shape of Om. After paying homage to Om Parvat, take some time to relax, meditate, and immerse yourself in the divine blessings of Lord Shiva. Following this spiritual experience, we will proceed to visit Kalapani, subject to permission. Later in the day, we will return to our Finding Shiva community, where you can participate in an evening walk to the Manakamana Temple and enjoy a cultural program, subject to artist availability. We will spend the night at Nabi Village.

OM PARVAT: Mentioned in the Skanda Purana, Om Parvat is one of eight such “OM” symbols, but only one is accessible for darshan. Mother Nature has manifested this divine symbol on a vast mountain, visible to us ego-driven beings. Prepare to be spellbound by the sight of this miracle, and take a moment to absorb the intense vibration of the sound “OM.”

Mahakali Temple (Kalapani): This temple, dedicated to the dark feminine energy of Kali, is a beautiful complex that may captivate you with its allure. Don’t miss the opportunity to pay homage to the source of the Kali River and explore Vyas Gufa during your visit.

Today, we embark on an early morning journey to visit the oldest abode of Lord Shiva – Adi Kailash. The road to the Almighty’s home is not for the faint-hearted; it challenges pilgrims at every turn, urging them to shed every fragment of ego as they traverse deep valleys and flowing rivers. Along the way, immerse yourself in the divine dance of the Vyas Valley, experiencing its beauty with every 100 meters gained. This is a kind of beauty that transcends mere words, beyond the reach of even the most skilled poets.

Don’t miss the opportunity to behold the Pandav Fort at Kuti village, a reminder of ancient tales and legends. Upon reaching Jollinkong, we will visit Parvati Sarovar, a 2km trek (depending on your fitness level) or accessible by hiring a pony. Here, delve into your inner consciousness, feel the energy of Lord Shiva, and close your eyes to absorb the vibrations emanating from the towering Adi Kailash Mountain, standing proudly at 6310 meters above sea level.

For those with the energy and health, the journey can be extended to Gauri Kund, located at the base of Mount Adi Kailash. However, this extension is subject to health conditions, as Gauri Kund stands at nearly 5000 meters and may pose risks of altitude sickness.

After lunch, we will seek permission from Lord Shiva to depart. In the evening, immerse yourself in the lifestyle of the RUNG community, gaining insights into the rich culture and traditions of Himalayan villages. Our overnight stay awaits us at Nabi village.

Following a hearty breakfast in the morning, we will commence our journey back to Dharchula. The evening will be free for you to explore Nepal and indulge in some shopping. Enjoy a delicious dinner and spend the night at a hotel in Dharchula.

After breakfast, we will embark on a scenic drive to Patalbhuvneshar, offering breathtaking views of the Shivalik ranges and picturesque Himalayan villages. Upon arrival, we will visit the revered Patalbhuvneshar Cave, believed to be the abode of Lord Shiva and thirty crore deities according to legend. Exploring this underground limestone cave is considered highly auspicious, with its spiritual significance equated to numerous visits to sacred sites like Kashi, Baidyanath, or Kedarnath. The Skanda Purana, in Manas Khand, chapter 103, elaborates on the blessings received at Patal Bhuvneshwar. Later, we will check in to a resort or hotel for an overnight stay.

After breakfast, we will embark on a journey to Kathgodam railway station, cherishing the unforgettable spiritual moments we have experienced throughout the yatra. As we bid farewell to this sacred journey, we reflect on the profound experiences that have transcended the boundaries of life and death. The yatra concludes here, leaving us enriched with spiritual insights and profound memories that will stay with us forever.
