Adi Kailash Yatra From Dharchula
Tour Highlights
According to legend, the demon king Ravana received blessings from Lord Shiva at Adi Kailash, gaining extraordinary strength and wisdom. Of the eight mountains that bear the sacred OM symbol, only one—Om Parvat, also known as Adi Kailash—has been revealed to humanity. Standing at an impressive height of 6,191 meters in the Dharchula district, Adi Kailash is famous for its spiritual significance and adventurous appeal. Its unique feature is the natural formation of an Om symbol with snow on the black mountain, making it a stunning marvel of nature.
Day-by-Day Travel Plan
Upon arrival at Dharchula, we will proceed with the necessary paperwork to obtain the Inner Line Permit. This permit is essential for our journey today, as we will be venturing close to the international border of Nepal. After completing the formalities, we will enjoy dinner and spend the night at a hotel.
Dharchula derives its name from its unique geography, with “Dhar” meaning “Ridge” and “Chulha” meaning “A stove”. The valley is aptly named as it resembles a stove when viewed from a bird’s eye perspective, with high ridges surrounding it on all four sides and the gushing Kali River delineating the border with Nepal. Apart from its proximity to Nepal, Dharchula offers various experiences such as visiting the “RUNG” museum or savoring the local delicacies of dumplings. For those attuned to the essence of places, Dharchula resonates with the historical Indo-Tibetan trade routes, and the spirit of the great migration caravan can be sensed in the demeanor of every indigenous Rung individual. The wrinkles on their brow and the timeless smiles they wear serve as gateways to the adventurous tales of the Silk Route.
After enjoying breakfast this morning, we will embark on a visit to Nabi, a picturesque village no less enchanting than the fictional world of “Pandora” from the movie Avatar. The journey promises to be a fairy tale adventure, offering stunning vistas of cliff-hanging mountains, rushing rivers, and snow-capped Himalayan peaks, giving you a sense of entering the territory of Lord Shiva. Along the way, we will also stop by charming villages such as Malpa (known for a tragic event in 1999, which you can learn about from our guide or driver), Budhi (offering a thrilling elevation and spiritual ambiance), Chialekh (where the Army checks for Inner Line Permits), Garbyang (where you can purchase sea buckthorn vinegar), and Gunji (offering views of the winding path towards Om Parvat and the ancient Kailash Mansarovar route).
Nabi village serves as the base camp for Adi Kailash, allowing you to immerse yourself in the authentic experience of Himalayan culture. Our accommodation for the night will be at a homestay in Nabi Village, featuring common washroom facilities. Get ready to savor delicious homemade meals that will tantalize your taste buds.
In the early morning, we will embark on a journey to Om Parvat, which will take approximately 2 hours by vehicle. Here, you will witness a “Miracle of Nature” as snow forms the shape of the sacred Om symbol on the mountain. After paying homage at Om Parvat, take time to relax, meditate, and experience the profound blessings of Lord Shiva.
Subject to permission, we will also visit Kalapani, a site associated with the Mahakali temple. The temple complex is known for its stunning beauty, making it difficult to leave. Be sure to visit the source of the Kali River and Vyas Gufa during your time here.
Upon returning to our Finding Shiva community in Nabi Village, we will embark on an evening walk to the Manakamana Temple and enjoy a cultural program (subject to availability of artists). We will spend the night at Nabi Village, immersed in the serene ambiance of the Himalayas.
OM PARVAT: Mentioned in the Skanda Purana, Om Parvat is one of eight sacred mountains bearing the symbol of “OM.” Witnessing this divine symbol on a vast mountain is an awe-inspiring experience. Just sit quietly and listen to the intense vibration of the sound “OM.”
Mahakali Temple (Kalapani): Experience the presence of “Kali,” the dark feminine energy, at this temple complex. The beauty of the surroundings may make it hard to leave. Don’t forget to visit the source of the Kali River and Vyas Gufa for added spiritual insights.
Today, we embark on an early morning journey to visit the ancient abode of Lord Shiva – Adi Kailash. The path to the home of the Almighty presents numerous challenges, testing the resolve of pilgrims as we traverse deep valleys and flowing rivers, shedding every fragment of ego along the way. Amidst this arduous journey, we witness the divine dance of the Vyas Valley with every hundred meters gained, experiencing a beauty that transcends the description of even the most skilled poets.
As we progress, don’t miss the opportunity to behold the Pandav Fort at Kuti village, a testament to ancient history and spirituality. Upon reaching Jollinkong, we will embark on a 2km trek (subject to fitness) or hire a pony to visit Parvati Sarovar. Here, delve into your inner consciousness, connect with the energy of Lord Shiva, and feel the vibrations as you bow before the towering Adi Kailash Mountain, soaring majestically at 6310 meters above sea level.
For those with the stamina, the journey can be extended to Gauri Kund, situated at the base of Mount Adi Kailash. However, this extension is contingent upon health conditions, as the altitude reaches nearly 5000 meters and may pose risks of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). After lunch, we will seek permission from Lord Shiva to depart.
In the evening, we will spend time with the RUNG community, gaining insights into the lifestyle and traditions of Himalayan villages. Our overnight stay will be at Nabi Village, surrounded by the serene beauty of the Himalayas.
Following a hearty breakfast in the morning, we will commence our journey back to Dharchula. Upon arrival, the evening will be free for you to explore neighboring Nepal and indulge in shopping. Later, we will gather for dinner and spend the night at a hotel in Dharchula.
After breakfast, we will embark on the continuation of your onward journey, carrying with you the unforgettable spiritual experiences gathered during this yatra. As we part ways, may these profound moments stay with you, transcending the boundaries of life and death. The yatra concludes here, leaving you enriched with spiritual insights and lasting memories.
